Sean Howe: Curious Reworlders
April 6th 2019 - June 1st 2019
Nestled between the twists and turns of imagined geology and infrastructure is a network of critters connected by an intricate bond. Their primary duty within their environment--to be a guide for your eyes.
Curious Reworlders is a collection of recent paintings full of wonder, dread, and absurdity. These works draw on traditions of world-building and spontaneity to explore personal, fantastical, and psychological worlds. In the paralyzing times of global climate change, manipulative politics, and inadequate development, I look to animals to create structure and to pave the way.
As you visually traverse a desolate scape, hack through a clutter of underbrush or dive into an infinite void--despite the chaos, isolation or overwhelm--you are never alone. I have entrusted your wellbeing in the hands (or claws) of curious reworlders.
P.S. Curious Reworlders does not shy away from terror and despair, it instead accepts our current environmental predicament and uses existing structures as a scaffold from which to design and anticipate more wiggly, blobby, and an ultimately, more life-giving form.
